Tank Setup
Provide a spacious tank with a sandy substrate and bogwood to form hiding places. They can be kept in planted tanks since they aren't substrate diggers.

They are omnivorous. Feed a varied diet of live/frozen foods along with dried foods.
Breeding
They are substrate spawners. Provide flat, vertical rocks to act as spawning sites. The female will lay up to 1000 eggs and both parents will guard them. The fry will hatch after two days and become free-swimming 6 days later.

They do well with other less aggressive south american cichlids.
