They need rocks arranged into caves and they need an open area for swimming. A sandy substrate is best.

Diet
In the wild, they eat mainly small fish. They will accept pellets, but they should be fed mainly mussel, cockle, prawns, lancefish, etc. and some green vegetables.
Breeding
Difficult. It is reccomended that you have a breeding group with one male and 3-6 females. They are maternal mouthbrooders. The female will carry the eggs in her mouth for around 3 weeks and she will not eat during this time.
Compatibility
They are predatory, so don't keep them with fish under 5 inches in length because these will be eaten. They are peaceful with fish too large to eat.
