They will accept most foods. Feed high quality cichlid pellets along with live/frozen foods such as brine shrimp, krill and mysis.
Breeding
They are maternal mouthbrooders, keep at least 3 females per male. The female will carry the brood of around 35 eggs for 3-4 weeks before releasing free-swimming fry.
Compatibility
They can be kept with other large Lake Malawi cichlids such as Fossorochromis rostratus. Do not keep with mbuna.

Males are larger and more colorful than females. Older males also develop larger dorsal, anal and caudal fins.
