- Feed a vegetable based diet. Foods with large amounts of protein can cause bloat.

- They are maternal mouthbrooders. 6-10 female fish should be kept per male because two males will be extremely aggressive towards each other. The female will carry the brood of 5-15 eggs for up to 30 days before releasing free-swimming fry. The fry can then be fed baby brine shrimp.
